Media Release: Groundwater Augmentation Works Officially Opened
30 August 2024
On August 22, 2024, Warren celebrated the official opening of its new groundwater augmentation works, marking a significant improvement in the town’s firefighting capabilities and drought preparedness. The project, which includes a new 2.5 km pipeline linking the towns two bore fields to the river water system, introduces modern infrastructure to ensure water accessibility during droughts and emergencies.
The augmentation works feature three new crossover points and advanced control devices that allow bore water to be transferred into the river pipeline for firefighting purposes. This crucial upgrade addresses a vulnerability experienced during the last drought, when low river levels nearly led to the evacuation of the local hospital due to inadequate firefighting resources from the lack of water supply.
“This project is a major step forward in drought-proofing Warren and ensuring our community is better prepared for emergencies,” said Mayor Milton Quigley at the opening ceremony. “The new pipeline and advanced systems provide a vital link between the Bore Flat and Ellengerah bore fields, significantly improving our town’s resilience.”
The project also includes state-of-the-art chlorination systems that purify water on-site, ensuring that residents have access to clean, treated water. These improvements have been hailed as a significant achievement by the Warren Shire Council, providing greater security and infrastructure to support the town’s needs.
The Warren Shire Council extends its gratitude to all those involved in the successful completion of the groundwater augmentation works, which stand as a testament to the town’s commitment to enhancing safety and sustainability for its residents.
