Works in Warren Shire: August 2023

Marthaguy Road
Marthaguy Road Reconstruction
Works on the first stage of the flood repairs on Marthaguy Road were completed by Council staff and specialist contractors in August. These works included shoulder grading and gravel re-sheeting using local lime stabilised material and a new two-coat bitumen seal wearing course. New guideposts were also installed.
Line marking of the completed section with a broken centre line and solid edge lines will be completed in early September. A big thank you to the local community, motorists and heavy vehicles for complying with traffic control during these works, which allowed the road to be reconstructed as quickly as possible.
Also appreciated is the patience shown by road users, considering that this road section had stayed damaged for an extended period.
Dubbo and Stafford Streets, Warren
Dubbo and Stafford Streets in Warren were re-sheeted with asphalt in August by Patches Asphalt, who was fresh off the heavy patching program on the Oxley Highway adjacent to Tiger Bay.
Crews worked all available daylight hours for ten days straight to complete the works one day ahead of their original schedule to minimise disruption to the Warren community, especially to the stores, services and businesses in Dubbo Street.
All line marking and pedestrian crossings affected by the works will be repainted in early September, with new angle parking lines painted between the garden blisters in Dubbo Street from Hale and Readford Streets.
Council and its contractor appreciated the support of the local community in putting up with the noise and traffic disruptions caused by these works.
Warren Road Rehab – Segments 28, 30 and 32.
This $3.7M project is funded by grants from the Federal and State Governments under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI), Restart NSW Fixing Country Roads and Block Grant programs respectively.
This funding has enabled a start to the reconstruction of approximately 6.2 kilometres of Warren Road, from Bullagreen Road towards Warren. Works completed to date include the construction of temporary by-passes around the 11 culverts sites and the culvert replacement.
Works on the construction of the culvert headwalls will be completed shortly, with pavement works commencing in the second half of August. Several of the culvert sites required special construction attention as the culverts were located in areas of Aboriginal heritage and cultural significance.
It is anticipated that reconstruction of the full 6.2 kilometres will be completed by Christmas 2023, weather permitting. Motorists are asked to drive carefully through the construction sites and to obey all traffic control signs.
Dragon Cowal Causeway, Merrigal Road
The Dragon Cowal Causeway on Merrigal Road has proceeded very quickly. Merrigal Road was closed for several days while the old plastic corrugated pipes were replaced with six individual lines of 600mm diameter concrete pipes.
The pipes were backfilled with a sand cement mix, compacted and the embankment supporting the road rebuilt, allowing Merrigal Road to reopen to traffic.
A concrete causeway is being constructed over the embankment to provide a permanent access along Merrigal Road during future flooding events. Road approaches for approximately 100 metres either side of the causeway will then be constructed. Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by these works and the associated road closure.
This project is funded by the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF) and Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). The DRRF is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments. The DRFA is a funding arrangement which sees the Australian Government help alleviate financial burden on state and territory governments, to support urgent financial assistance for disaster affected communities.
