Warren Shire to welcome dual Olympian Alexandra Moore as Australia Day Ambassador
17 January 2025
Warren Shire Council is delighted to announce that dual Olympian Alexandra Moore will serve as the official Australia Day Ambassador for 2025. Alexandra, who has made history as the first Commonwealth athlete to win gold medals in two different sports, brings an inspiring story of perseverance and achievement to this year’s celebrations.
A trailblazer in Australian sport, Alexandra represented the nation as a gymnast at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and later as a diver at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. She was the fifth Australian female to be a dual Olympian for two different sports and the first ever Commonwealth Athlete to achieve gold medals at Commonwealth Games in two different sports, achieving this distinction at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games for gymnastics and the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games for diving.
Dual-Olympian Alexandra Moore will serve as Warren Shire Council’s official Australia Day Ambassador for 2025.
Beyond her sporting accomplishments, Alexandra has pursued academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy and a Master’s in Health Science from The University of Sydney. Now working as a Rehabilitation Consultant in Sydney, she also supports initiatives such as the Premier’s Sporting Challenge and the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Warren Shire residents are invited to join in the Australia Day celebrations on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Warren Sporting and Cultural Centre, Victoria Park. The program will commence at 8:30 am with a free barbecue breakfast, followed by the official ceremony at 9:45 am. Alexandra Moore will deliver the Australia Day address at 10:00 am, sharing her experiences and reflections. The morning will conclude with the presentation of Australia Day Awards.
Warren Shire Council Mayor, Greg Whiteley, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s event. “We are proud to welcome Alexandra Moore as our 2025 Australia Day Ambassador. Her achievements in sport and her contributions to the broader community make her an inspiring role model for us all,” he said. “Australia Day is a time to reflect on our history, respect each other’s stories, and celebrate our nation and its people,” Mr Whiteley added.
“ It’s also a chance to honour the local residents who work tirelessly to make Warren a better place, whether through sport, caring for others, or community service. This day is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to these remarkable individuals and groups.”
The Council looks forward to welcoming residents and visitors to this important occasion, celebrating the values that unite us as Australians.
