Media Release: Warren Shire’s Alert System Gets a Local Face with Shire Alert - Post Image

Warren Shire Council has unveiled a new look for its community notification system, with Shire Alert now giving the trusted service a distinctly local identity.

Previously known as Whispir, Shire Alert continues to provide the same reliable, real-time updates residents rely on, now under a name that reflects Warren Shire’s focus on connection and community.

The free service delivers timely localised updates about emergencies, road closures, water service interruptions and community notices, straight to residents’ phones and inboxes. Subscribers can choose to receive alerts via SMS, email, or both — and will only receive information relevant to their area.

Mayor Greg Whiteley said the rebrand recognises the critical role communication plays in rural communities like Warren Shire, where distance, weather and infrastructure can quickly impact daily life.

“In communities like ours, knowing what’s happening early can make a real difference,” Mayor Whiteley said.

“Whether it’s a road to town being closed, a bore water shutdown, or severe weather moving in, real-time, local information helps people plan ahead and stay safe.”

Mayor Whiteley said the decision to adopt a local name was about trust and clarity.

“In times of emergency, clear communication saves time and, in some cases, lives. Shire Alert ensures our community stays informed and prepared when it matters most,” he said.

“The new name makes it immediately clear that these messages are coming from your local Council, about your local area,” he said.

More than 264 residents have already subscribed to receive alerts about water service updates, road closures and emergency warnings. Council hopes the refreshed local identity will encourage more residents to sign up and stay connected.

Residents who have already subscribed through Whispir do not need to take any action. Their alerts will continue uninterrupted under the new Shire Alert name.

Those who haven’t yet joined are encouraged to register now. Sign-up is quick, easy and completely free via Council’s website at: www.warren.nsw.gov.au/community/shire-alert

Mayor Greg Whiteley said Shire Alert is part of Council’s ongoing work to strengthen connection and preparedness across the region.

“We’re proud to offer this service as part of how Warren Shire looks out for each other,” he added. “I encourage everyone to sign up and stay in the loop. Being informed helps us all be there for one another.”
