Media Release: Warren Shire Library Selected for LitUp 2027

Warren Shire Library has been selected as one of 31 communities across New South Wales and Queensland to participate in Australia Reads’ expanded LitUp author touring program in 2027.
LitUp is a live literature initiative that helps Australian schools and communities host events that connect readers directly with the creators behind the stories they love.
Through the program, Warren Shire Library will welcome an Australian author or illustrator to Warren next autumn or winter.
Warren Shire Mayor Greg Whiteley said the program would bring a valuable opportunity to local readers.
“It’s great to see our Library included in a program like this,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“Opportunities to meet Australian authors and illustrators don’t come our way every day and I know plenty of local book lovers who will enjoy it.”
The expanded LitUp program follows a successful 2026 pilot, which reached more than 6,000 students and community members through 82 events involving 13 Australian authors and illustrators.
In 2027, more than 100 events will take place across over 110 schools, libraries, bookshops and community centres.
Warren Shire Council General Manager Gary Woodman congratulated the Library team on securing the opportunity.
“This is a terrific achievement for our Library team and a reflection of their commitment to the Warren Shire community,” Mr Woodman said.
“They work hard to keep reading accessible, enjoyable and part of community life and I congratulate them on this excellent result.”
Warren Shire Library will now work with Australia Reads to select its visiting author or illustrator. More information about the visit and how the community can take part will be shared as plans develop.
