The recent upgrades at Warren Airport have significantly improved amenity and safety, benefiting services like the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Air Ambulance.

Funded by the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package, the $2.37 million project has also supported the local economy by employing local tradespeople and small businesses. Despite major delays and challenges, the project has achieved timely completion and all grant milestone requirements.

The terminal building now features a combined Aero Club training room with two office spaces, an entry foyer with a covered walkway, a kitchenette, and amenities, including a shower in the unisex accessible toilet.

Construction of the new Warren Airport terminal building began in July 2023, following the award of a contract to a local contractor, BRD Design and Construction Pty Ltd.

The new terminal building and airport improvements will be officially opened on 22 August 2024 by Roy Butler MP, Member for Barwon and Milton Quigley, Mayor of Warren Shire.

Council has also finalised lease agreement negotiations with Bankstown Flying School to establish a flying school to be based at the Warren Airport. This initiative will boost local aviation training, attract new business and contribute to the regional economy.

Warren Airport has a long history of air transport operations that once included RPT services by Eastern Airlines and pilot training through the Warren Aero Club.

The Warren Airport Master Plan 2018-28 identified that the existing terminal building required comfortable air-conditioned space and compliant amenities for its users. Planning for the construction of a new terminal building began in 2020, as the old terminal building, built in 1960, no longer met modern comfort standards.

In 2020, Warren Airport Facilities Improvement project received $2.37M in grant funding from the NSW Government's Drought Stimulus Package, managed by the Department of Industry Planning and Environment. This included $185K for terminal building upgrades. The project included improvement works to runway, upgrades to taxiways and aprons, installation of an aircraft refuelling facility, an automatic weather station, drainage improvements around runway, and a terminal building upgrade.

Join us for the official opening out at the airport on Thursday 22 August 2024 at 9.15am.
