State-of-the-art future for new youth sports precinct

Warren Shire Council has engaged the community to review a draft Masterplan to revive Carter Oval and the Warren War Memorial Swimming Pool into a state-of-the-art sporting and recreational precinct for Warren Shire and surrounding areas.
One of many infrastructure upgrades planned for Warren Shire, the precinct will be a place to bring the community together through sport and activities from cricket, soccer and athletics to the skate park, bike training park, playground, water park, and barbecue and picnic area.
General Manager, Gary Woodman, says the proposed plan will see the area become a sporting and recreational hub designed with Shire youth at its heart.
“The redevelopment of the Carter Oval Youth Sporting Precinct including the Warren War Memorial Swimming Pool is an extremely important project, as the area will provide a place to build community connections and encourage more young people to participate in sporting activities,” says Mr Woodman.
The development of the area is taking a staged approach, with the skate park and water park both now complete, along with a dedicated area for picnics with barbecues installed.
The next stage of improvements focuses on a lighting upgrade for the venue with Council successful in the latest round of funding from the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program (Round 3) for the installation of modern LED fast-ball lighting. The lighting upgrade will improve access for sporting teams to extend training into the winter months and, a first for Carter Oval, begin hosting night-time cricket.
“Work has also commenced for the installation of drainage and irrigation for the soccer fields and junior cricket oval, construction of bus and car parking areas, development of a three-bay storage shed and perimeter fencing, all of which is funded under the Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development ‘Improvement of Regional Structures’ program.
“The draft Masterplan is based on earlier community feedback and outlines planned funded future works and future works that are subject to funding, which aims to create a sporting and recreational precinct that incorporates state-of-the-art facilities and recreational activities for children and youth of all ages,” added Mr Woodman.
Council is seeking input from the community and user groups on the Carter Oval Youth Sporting Precinct including Warren War Memorial Swimming Pool Masterplan and is hoping to create a space that provides long-term benefits to Warren Shire residents.
