Media Release: Residents call for easier recycling across Warren Shire
19 June 2026
Residents across Warren Shire are calling for easier recycling access, according to results from Warren Shire Council’s 2026 Recycling Services Survey.
The survey received 139 responses from across Warren, Nevertire, Collie and surrounding rural areas, providing valuable insight into how residents currently recycle, the challenges they face and the improvements they would like to see.
Results showed that more than 80% of residents already recycle or attempt to recycle, with many going to significant effort to do so. Around 60% of those residents currently travel outside the Shire to access recycling facilities, most commonly to Dubbo.
Mayor Greg Whiteley said the results highlight both the community’s commitment to recycling and the opportunity for Council to improve local access.
“Our residents are already doing the right thing where they can. What they’ve told us is that they want it to be easier,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“A lot of people are travelling out of town just to recycle. That’s a clear signal we need to make recycling accessible right here in Warren Shire.”
More than 80% of respondents said they would be likely to use a kerbside recycling service, highlighting strong community demand.
In response, Council is now progressing work towards the introduction of kerbside recycling, with a proposed start date of October 2026, subject to budget approval.
“Kerbside recycling will make it easier for people across our community to recycle without leaving the Shire.”
“We’re moving forward with plans to make this happen, while continuing to explore other options to improve recycling access for everyone in our community,” Mayor Whiteley added.
General Manager Gary Woodman said the next stage will focus on supporting residents through the transition.
“We’ll continue to keep the community informed and make it as easy as possible for people to get started once the new service is available,” Mr Woodman said.
Council thanks all residents who took part in the survey and will provide further updates as planning progresses.
