Media Release: Ready, Set, Sort! Warren Shire’s First Kerbside Recycling Collection Is One Week Away

The countdown is on to Warren Shire’s first kerbside recycling collection next Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Residents at eligible properties across Warren, Collie and Nevertire are being encouraged to start sorting their recycling now so their yellow-lid bins are ready for collection day.
Warren Shire Mayor Greg Whiteley said excitement was building ahead of the first collection.
“The bins have been delivered, the Good Sort truck is ready to roll and everything’s in place for our first kerbside collection next Wednesday,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“This is something our community has wanted for a long time and there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes to get us here.
“Like anything we do as a community, making it work will come down to everyone playing their part. If we all take that extra moment to check what we’re putting in the yellow-lid bin, we’ll give the service a really good start.”
Residents are being reminded that the yellow-lid bin is for everyday household recyclables including paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, aluminium and steel cans and plastic bottles and containers.
Recyclables should be empty, rinsed and placed loose in the bin, rather than inside plastic bags.
Soft plastics and plastic bags, food and garden waste, clothing and textiles, nappies, batteries and other general waste should not be placed in the recycling bin.
“The Good Sorts are pretty straightforward — your paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, cans, and plastic bottles and containers can all go in the yellow-lid bin,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“There’ll always be a few things that have us scratching our heads. That’s when we want people to stop, have a quick check and find the right place for it.”
Not everything that stays out of the yellow-lid necessarily belongs in general waste.
Council is reminding residents that batteries should never be placed in either kerbside bin and require a separate disposal pathway. Other household items such as clothing and e-waste may also be able to be recycled or given a second life through specialised collection or recycling programs.
For anything residents are unsure about, Council’s message is simple: Check Before You Chuck.
“Every recycling bin has a quick reference for what can and can’t be recycled on the yellow-lid. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, Council’s A–Z Recycling Guide on the Kerbside Recycling Hub provides information on common household items and how they should be disposed of or recycled,” Mayor Whiteley said.
Residents are being asked to put their yellow-lid bin out on Tuesday night 6 October 2026, ready for the first collection on Wednesday, 7 October 2026.
From there, the yellow-lid recycling service will operate every second Wednesday.
