Media Release: Warren Airport Terminal Officially Opened - Post Image

The Warren Airport officially opened its upgraded terminal on August 22, 2024, marking the completion of significant improvements funded by a $2.37 million grant from the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package. The upgrades include a new terminal building with modern amenities, enhanced runways, taxiways, an aircraft refuelling facility and an automatic weather station.

The new terminal, constructed by local contractor BRD Design and Construction Pty Ltd, features air-conditioned spaces, a meeting room, a kitchenette, showers and accessible facilities. This state-of-the-art upgrade addresses the long-standing needs of the Warren aviation community, which previously operated with a terminal built in 1960 that no longer met contemporary comfort standards.

In addition to the terminal building, the project also saw the installation of a backup generator for runway lighting, improved drainage, and a new fuel tank, addressing past challenges and enhancing the airport’s operational capabilities. These upgrades will support critical services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, aero-medical and air freight operations, aerial firefighting and private aviation.

During the opening ceremony, Roy Butler MP, Member for Barwon, and Warren Shire Mayor Milton Quigley highlighted the economic and social impact of the airport’s enhancements. Notably, the Council is finalising lease agreement negotiations with Bankstown Flying School to establish a flying school at Warren Airport, a move that is expected to boost local aviation training and attract new business to the region.

“The improvements made here will have a lasting impact on the community, not just in terms of aviation but in the overall economic growth of the region,” said Mayor Milton Quigley. “The upgraded facilities will also enable better support for essential services and provide a modern, comfortable space for all airport users.”

The Warren Airport Improvement Facilities project, despite facing delays and challenges, was completed on time, meeting all grant milestone requirements and employing local tradespeople and small businesses, further contributing to the regional economy.

Warren Airport, with its rich history of air transport operations, including RPT services by Eastern Airlines and pilot training through the Warren Aero Club, now stands as a modernised facility ready to meet future demands.
