Media Release: Ewenmar Waste Depot Transfer Station Officially Opened
30 August 2024
Warren Shire Council was pleased to announce the official opening of the upgraded Ewenmar Waste Depot Transfer Station, held on August 22, 2024. The total project cost of $340,000 was supported by a $155,658 grant from the Environment Protection Authority under the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, with additional funding provided from the Council’s Waste Fund.
In 2019, Warren Shire Council successfully secured grant funds for the construction of this transfer station and associated environmental improvements. The upgrade includes a new overhead loading structure that improves safety and efficiency by allowing visitors to deposit general waste directly into a truck, thus eliminating the hazards of a muddy pit. The project also features a renewal of the litter-proof boundary fence and internal portable fencing.
“The transfer station serves as a dedicated area for the management of putrescible waste, aiming to improve the sorting of waste into appropriate stockpiles and to minimise the delivery of unaccepted items such as tyres and chemicals,” said Mayor Milton Quigley. “This project also focuses on reducing the volume of recyclables that were previously disposed of as waste.”
The newly upgraded facility ensures the depot remains operational even during wet weather and supports better waste management practices, contributing to a cleaner and safer environment for the community.
