Media Release: Carinda and Marthaguy Roads to receive safety upgrades - Post Image

The NSW Government has announced funding for critical road safety improvements on two high-risk sections of the local road network as part of the Towards Zero Safer Roads Program. This initiative, which is a key element of the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan, aims to reduce road trauma and improve safety across NSW by addressing high-risk locations.

Warren Shire Council has been awarded funding for road safety upgrades on Carinda Road and Marthaguy Road, both of which have a history of serious injury and fatal crashes. These projects will focus on improving infrastructure and implementing speed management measures to prevent further accidents and enhance road safety for all users.

Carinda Road

The NSW Government has approved $3,949,000 in funding for safety upgrades on Carinda Road, including a $450,000 contribution from Council. The project will target a 11.9km stretch of the road starting 64km from the intersection with Industrial Access Road. Key improvements will include:

  • Shoulder widening to at least 0.5m for sealed shoulders.
  • Creation of a 4m-wide traversable clear zone on the roadside.
  • Line marking for improved visibility.
  • Installation of reflective guideposts for enhanced night-time safety.
  • Comprehensive road safety audit to assess effectiveness and ensure long-term safety.

Marthaguy Road

A total of $4,290,000 has been allocated for upgrades on Marthaguy Road, with a $450,000 contribution from Council. The 9.85km section starting 12km from the intersection with the Oxley Highway will see the following improvements:

  • Shoulder widening to at least 0.5m on straight sections and 2.5m along bends.
  • Installation of curve alignment markers to improve visibility on sharp turns.
  • Flexible barriers along bends to reduce the impact of crashes.
  • Line marking and reflective guideposts for added safety.
  • Road safety audit to ensure the effectiveness of the changes.

Both projects are expected to be completed by June 2025.

“We are pleased to receive this important funding, which will help make Carinda and Marthaguy Roads safer for our local community,” said Warren Shire Council’s General Manager, Gary Woodman. “These improvements will reduce the risk of accidents and save lives, particularly on stretches of road with a history of serious crashes. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these upgrades will have on road safety in our region.”
