Media Release: Mayor and Deputy Mayor re-elected unopposed

Mayor Greg Whiteley and Deputy Mayor Sarah Derrett have both been re-elected unopposed at Warren Shire Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 24 September 2026.
Mayor Whiteley said he was incredibly proud to continue serving the Warren Shire community and thanked his fellow Councillors for their support.
“We’ve got an amazing community here in Warren Shire. I see every day how much people care about this place and each other. It’s a real privilege to serve them,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“I couldn’t do this job on my own. I’ve got a great team around me with my fellow Councillors. Everyone brings something different to the table and I’m proud of the way we work together for our community.”
“I’m especially pleased Sarah will continue as Deputy Mayor. She brings a lot to the role and I value having her alongside me.”
Mayor Whiteley said Council had made progress on roads and community facilities over the past two years, with more work ahead.
“We’ve put a lot of work into our roads, improved places like Carter Oval Youth Sports Precinct and the Warren War Memorial Swimming Pool and brought the Warren Town Levee close to completion. We’re also getting ready for the Shire’s first kerbside recycling collection.”
He added that while those projects were important, serving the community remained at the heart of his role.
“Those things matter because they make a difference to people’s lives. I hope residents have found us approachable and feel comfortable coming to us with what’s on their minds. Listening to people is part of doing the job well.”
Mayor Whiteley said he would continue advocating for Warren Shire on issues that affect the region’s future.
“Water security, housing and fair funding for country councils matter to rural communities like ours. I’ll keep working with other regional leaders to make sure our needs are heard when those decisions are made.”
