General Induction Day with Guest Speaker “Woody the Safety Bloke”
27 September 2024
On August 29, 2024, Council held its annual General Induction Day, with a focus on workplace safety, quality, and environmental awareness. The event featured James Wood, also known as "Woody the Safety Bloke," as the guest speaker.
The objective of the induction day was to consult with, educate and prepare council staff on work, health and safety (WHS) practises that they encounter on a daily basis. Presentations were delivered on important topics including plant safety, incident reporting, site documentation, RMCC protocols, pre-start checklists and the chain of responsibility. Staff also reviewed all Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) to ensure best practices are being followed.
Woody's impactful presentation, centred around the theme of "CHOICES," shared his personal story of a workplace accident that left him in a wheelchair. His powerful message emphasised that the choices we make each day, no matter how small, can lead to life-changing consequences, driving home the importance of staying safe on the job.
The induction day was a valuable opportunity for Council to reinforce its commitment to creating a safe, responsible and informed work environment.
