As we approach the end of this term of Council, it is appropriate to reflect on Council’s achievements and recognise those who have contributed to the progress that has been made during that period across the Warren Shire.

Firstly, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all Councillors for their dedication and commitment. Their efforts have seen our communities continue to develop, particularly in terms of quality infrastructure.

I am proud of the infrastructure projects that are either complete or nearing completion. The Library has been upgraded. New lighting has been installed and new outdoor netball courts have been completed at Victoria Park. Solar panels have been installed on a number of Council buildings. A new Airport Terminal Building has been opened. Cross connections of the Warren town water supplies have been completed, as well as significant infrastructure improvements at our well-regarded Showground Racecourse Complex.

The Carter Oval Youth Sports Precinct is nearing completion, as is the new Amenities Building at the Warren War Memorial Swimming Pool.

Despite the challenges of flooding and continuing wet weather, our road infrastructure is improving with planned upgrades to the Nevertire-Bogan Road underway and planned upgrades to a longer section of the Marthaguy Road to begin shortly. Work on upgrading the Warren town levee will also begin in the next few months.

Our response to multiple flood events has been effective given the constraints under which Council operates. Health services in the General Practitioner space have stabilised with the Royal Flying Doctor Service managing the Warren Family Health Centre.

I want to acknowledge Councillors Druce, Walker and Taylor for their invaluable contributions to the Warren Shire Council. I also thank our staff, led by General Manager Gary Woodman, and my Executive Assistant, Jody Burtenshaw, for their exceptional support. I am confident the next Council will build on the achievements of this Council.

More personally, thank you all for your support during my twenty years as a Councillor, particularly in my last six years as Mayor. It has been an honour and privilege to represent the wonderful community that is the Warren Shire.

Milton Quigley,

Mayor
