From the Mayor's Desk: October 2026
02 October 2026
I was honoured to be re-elected as Mayor of Warren Shire at September’s Council meeting and I’m pleased to have Sarah Derrett continuing alongside me as Deputy Mayor for the next two years.
Everyone around the Council table has a role to play. We bring different experience and perspectives and our job is to put those to work for the community. There is plenty ahead of us and some significant milestones to recognise this month.
The recent completion of the Warren Town Levee Rehabilitation Project is a real win for our town. Anyone who has watched the river rise and lived through floods knows how much this work matters.
Next Wednesday, 7 October 2026, we will also see Warren Shire’s first kerbside recycling collection in Warren, Nevertire and Collie. For years, plenty of locals have loaded up their recycling and taken it out of the Shire themselves. Having a collection at the kerb will make things easier and help us keep useful materials out of landfill and extend the life of the Ewenmar Waste Depot.
I’m incredibly proud of young Dusty Langby. To walk 540 kilometres and raise so much for Little Wings and country kids is an extraordinary achievement. He’s shown what one young bloke from our Shire can do with determination and a great community behind him.
Let’s give Dusty and his team the celebration they have earned. Come along to Dusty’s Last Lap on Saturday 17 October 2026 at Victoria Park from 2.30 pm to 6.00 pm. A special presentation will be made at 3.15pm.
Bring the family, wear blue and yellow and give them a good Warren turnout.
Dusty’s effort also brings home how much country families rely on organisations like Little Wings and the generosity that keeps them going. Families should be able to count on essential support wherever they live. Our young people can inspire us, but they should not have to carry that load.
I’ll keep pushing for a fairer funding deal that recognises what country communities contribute and gives them the support they need.
