From the Mayor’s Desk: November 2024
06 November 2024
I am honoured to address you as the new Mayor of Warren Shire Council, having taken office on October 10, 2024. I succeed Milton Quigley, whose leadership has been commendable. As a family farmer and long-time resident of the Warren Shire community, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
Teamwork and collaboration will be at the forefront of my leadership, because success isn’t a solo act; it relies on all team members working together toward shared goals. I therefore aim to lead a Council focused on practical engagement with residents, ensuring we address challenges head-on and with a steady hand.
Alongside many rural and regional Council’s, Warren Shire Council faces economic constraints, and we must be smart about how we prioritise our resources. Throughout my service, I will be advocating for initiatives that promote local economic growth and investment and harness the agricultural potential that defines our region.
I am already inspired by the progress our Council has made, particularly in recent infrastructure developments. The recent openings of the Airport Terminal, the Warren Showground/Racecourse Complex, the Ewenmar Waste Depot, and the improvements to Carter Oval - set to be officially opened on December 5 - demonstrate our Council’s inherent ability to "get things done."
We are also progressing on significant roadworks projects. We have secured funding for safety improvements on Carinda and Marthaguy Roads, and we are actively working on flood damage restoration from the September 2022 floods. The positive feedback from residents about how fantastic the town looks underscores the real and positive impact this action-oriented approach has.
As we enter the festive season, I am pleased to announce the Warren Street Christmas Party will be held on December 6, 2024. This event, funded through the Transport for NSW Open Streets Grant Program, will feature family-friendly activities, including a visit from Santa, children's rides, and a fireworks display.
I look forward to meeting many more members of our community at this event, and to fulfilling my role with dedication and integrity to ensure our community’s needs are met.
Greg Whiteley, Mayor
