One of the most important parts of local government happens beyond the Council chambers. Over recent weeks, we've been representing Warren Shire in meetings with ministers, government departments and other regional councils, making the case for practical solutions that reflect the realities of communities like ours.

At the recent NSW Local Roads Congress in Sydney, we had productive discussions with Minister for Roads and Regional Transport Hon. Jenny Aitchison about strengthening partnerships between local and state government to improve outcomes for the regional roads our communities rely on every day.

In addition to Council's submission to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan Review, we met with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water to discuss the Critical Human Needs reports and the Macquarie-Wambuul Water Security Project. These are important conversations for our region and I'll continue working closely with the Department to make sure local knowledge and local data help inform the decisions being made.

Next month, I'll be joining fellow Country Mayors in Ballina to look at disaster recovery initiatives and share ideas on how we can continue building resilient regional communities.

Back home, work continues across the Shire. It's great to see contractors back on the Macquarie River as work recommences on the Levee Rehabilitation Project, while we're also acting on feedback from our recent recycling survey with initial planning underway for a new kerbside recycling service.

I'm looking forward to getting amongst the community at the Warren Show this weekend. If you're heading along, come and say hello to me and your Councillors at the Warren Shire Council stand.

Greg Whiteley, Mayor
