Council Meeting Highlights October 2026
23 October 2026
Warren Shire’s Ordinary Council Meeting was held on Thursday 22 October 2026. Highlights from this meeting included:
COUNCILLORS RECOGNISED FOR 10 YEARS OF SERVICE
Deputy Mayor Sarah Derrett and Councillor Andrew Brewer were presented with 10 Year Long Service Awards. Mayor Greg Whiteley paid tribute to both Councillors for their contributions to the Warren Shire community and thanked Councillor Derrett for her continued support as Deputy Mayor.
LIBRARY REFURBISHMENT AND EXPANSION SUPPORTED
Council approved, in principle, a proposed refurbishment and extension of Warren Shire Library, subject to securing capital grants to fully fund the project in stages. The estimated $3.5 million proposal would approximately double the library’s size, providing dedicated spaces for children, quiet study, community activities and local history.
FUNDING ALLOCATED FOR CHANGING PLACES FACILITY
Council approved a $49,120 contribution from its Infrastructure Reserve towards a Changing Places facility at Bob Christensen Reserve. Combined with a successful $200,000 Commonwealth grant, this provides a total project budget of $249,120. The facility will support people with high support needs who cannot use standard accessible toilets, helping more residents and visitors access the reserve.
COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PARTY ARRANGEMENTS APPROVED
Council approved arrangements for a designated licensed area at the Carter Oval Youth Sports Precinct during the Warren Shire Community Christmas Party on Friday 4 December 2026. Alcohol will only be permitted within the cordoned area in front of the Kiosk and Amenities Building between 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm. BYO alcohol will not be permitted at the event.
FIRST KERBSIDE RECYCLING COLLECTION REPORTED
Council received an update confirming that recycling bins had been delivered and the first fortnightly kerbside recycling collection took place on Wednesday 7 October 2026 across Warren, Nevertire and Collie. Community education and promotion continue to support residents using the new service.
LEVEE REHABILITATION CLOSE-OUT PROGRESSES
Council noted progress towards finalising the $7.1 million Warren Town Levee Rehabilitation Project. Major construction was completed on 28 August 2026, with most project reporting and funding acquittal requirements complete. The closing ceremony scheduled for 22 October 2026 has been postponed until Friday 11 December 2026.
ROAD IMPROVEMENTS AND MAINTENANCE CONTINUE
Council received an update confirming completion of the RR202 Marthaguy Road safety improvement project and gravel resheeting on SR23 Gradgery Lane and SR65 Old Warren Road. Works continue on SR98 Colane Road, alongside grading, pothole repairs and roadside maintenance across the Shire.
FINANCIAL RESERVES REVIEWED
Council approved a revised list of internally restricted funds and carryovers as at 30 June 2026, totalling approximately $9.914 million, subject to final audit. These funds are set aside for identified projects, asset replacement and future service needs.
