Media Release: Council Approves Program and Funding for Kerbside Recycling - Post Image

Warren Shire Council has responded to community feedback by approving funding for a new kerbside recycling service across the Shire.

Council's decision was informed by the 2026 Recycling Services Survey, which identified strong community support for more convenient and accessible recycling options. More than 80 per cent of respondents said they would be likely to use a kerbside recycling service, while around 60 per cent reported travelling outside the Shire to access recycling facilities, most commonly to Dubbo.

Warren Shire Mayor Greg Whiteley welcomed the project and funding approval by Council through the 2026/2027 Operational Plan and Estimates.

“This is a real win for our community,” Mayor Whiteley said.

“When residents told us they wanted easier recycling options, Council committed to exploring solutions. This program and funding approval means we can move forward in making kerbside recycling a reality in Warren Shire.”

"It’s an important step towards delivering a service that will make recycling easier and more convenient for people across our Shire."

Council will partner with JR Richards & Sons to introduce a fortnightly kerbside recycling service, including the rollout of Council-owned 240L yellow-lid recycling bins to eligible households and businesses in Warren, Nevertire and Collie. The service is expected to commence on 7 October 2026.

"We’re pleased to be partnering with JR Richards & Sons as we work towards giving residents access to a service they told us is important to them."

Mark Venhoek, Chief Executive Officer of JR Richards & Sons said the company was proud to support Warren Shire Council with sustainable waste and recycling solutions.

"Regional communities deserve access to practical recycling solutions and we're proud to support Warren Shire Council in delivering a service that will benefit residents for years to come," Mr Venhoek said.

"Kerbside recycling will make it easier for residents to recycle from home and help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill."

Council will work closely with residents throughout the rollout to ensure the transition to kerbside recycling is as smooth and straightforward as possible.

Further information on bin delivery, collection schedules and service commencement will be provided as the project progresses.
