Media Release: BINS OUT TONIGHT: WARREN SHIRE’S FIRST KERBSIDE RECYCLING COLLECTION BEGINS TOMORROW
06 October 2026
After months of planning and preparation, Warren Shire’s first kerbside recycling service will officially hit the streets tomorrow, Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Yellow-lid recycling bins will be collected for the first time across Warren, Collie and Nevertire, marking the beginning of a new fortnightly recycling service for eligible properties across the Shire.
Warren Shire Mayor Greg Whiteley said seeing the first collection get underway would be the culmination of months of work and an important moment for the community.
“There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes to get this service up and running and I’m really proud of the team for getting us to this point,” Mayor Whiteley said.
“People told us they wanted the opportunity to recycle closer to home and tomorrow we finally get to see that become a reality.”
“I can't wait to see those yellow lids lined up along our streets tomorrow morning.
“It’s a new routine for all of us, but if everyone takes that extra moment to check what belongs in their yellow-lid bin before they chuck, we’ll be off to a good start. It won’t be long before putting the yellow lid out every fortnight is just part of what we do,” he said.
Residents can check the guide on their recycling bin lid to see what can be placed inside for recycling.
Council asks residents to put their yellow-lid recycling bin out tonight Tuesday 6 October 2026, ready for collection on Wednesday morning. All bins should be on the kerb before 6.00am on collection day.
To make sure bins can be collected, residents should:
- position bins with the wheels facing the property and the lid opening towards the road
- leave at least 50cm between the bin and other bins or obstacles
- make sure the lid can close completely.
Recyclable items should be empty, rinsed and placed loose in the yellow-lid bin, rather than inside plastic bags. Plastic bags and other soft plastics do not belong in the yellow-lid bin and can contaminate recycling.
Batteries should never be placed in either kerbside bin. When batteries are crushed or damaged during collection and processing, they can cause fires and need to be disposed of separately.
Yellow-lid recycling collections will continue every second Wednesday following the inaugural collection.
Everything residents need to get sorted — including their Waste and Recycling Collection Calendar, the A–Z Recycling Guide and downloadable recycling resources — is available through Council’s Kerbside Recycling Hub.
